Wine villages

Here for you´ll have to go in the valley: Here with us on the mountains, there´s no wine in the vineyards (although, in our front rooms you can very well find different bottles of wine) In the valley you can find one wine village after the other.

Just take it cool and decide spontaneous where your trip is going to. A good idea would be the places along the wine street. Between Nals and Salurn, villages like Andrian, Terlan, Bozen (yes, our capital too) Eppan, Pfatten, Auer, Montan, Neumarkt line up. On the other side of the valley “Überetsch” so called because it is situated on a higher level than the Etsch ; over the river Etsch, you will find more villages, Kaltern, Tramin, Kurtatsch. Margreid, Kurtinig and so on.

All of them are marked by wine growing. Everywhere you go there are plenty of wine cellars with special offers: wine tasting, guided visits through the cellars, hiking tours through the vineyards, things worth seeing like very old or very new and modern architecture, wine books and wine seminars.

There are also the wine villages around Meran and in Vinschgau and Eisacktal, where you can very well feel the alpine influence, not only in the nature but in the white wine too.

One to twenty! That´s unique: South Tirol has a cultivation area of about 5.300 hectar and twenty different sorts of wines stocks. In more than half of the vineyards, grow white sorts, tendency going up, sorts like Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Weißburgunder, Chardonnay are the most produced white wines. Sauvignon, Müller Thurgau, Sylvaner, Kerner, Riesling and Veltliner are produced in smaller quantities. Next to the two original red wines, Vernatsch and Lagrein, are also all other important wine stocks at home here like Blauburgunder, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc.

So you can imagine, your choice won´t be a light one but certainly a sweet one…

In Aldein, Altrei and Truden our tourism information offices are there to help you, on the right side you can find our opening times.
