Dolomites 

You can enjoy the Dolomites in different ways: Streets, paths, hiking paths and climbing paths, allow you to discover our mountains as you like and as your conditions allows it. You will surely find the right way to enjoy the breathtaking mountain formations.

More than 300 years ago the famous “ Drei Zinnen” came into being, 40 years ago the Dolomites came into being, so called because of the mineral “Dolomit” and the most fascinating of all is that you can even find nowadays the fossils of creatures which ones lived in the seas.

The Dolomites also called “Monti Pallidi” or pale mountains because of their pale dolomite stones, was declared as a UNESCO world inheritance in 2009.

Nine mountain chains- a representative selection for the Dolomites- was written down in a list as a serial world inheritance. Serial because the mountain chains are special divided but form in landscape, geological and geomorphological history, one homogeneous piece.

The areas of about 142.000 hectare reach over the provinces Bozen in South Tirol, Trient, Belluno, Pordenone and Udine. In South Tirol the national park “Drei Sinnen”,
Fannes-Sennes-Prags, Puez-Geisler, Schlern-Rosengarten, the Latemar mountain and the gorge of the Bletterbach, are part of the world inheritance.

The explanation of the UNESCO-Commission: „The nine areas of the world inheritance in the Dolomites are composed of a unique mountain landscape of extreme beauty. Its impressing steep and pale peaks have a worldwide extraordinary variety of forms. These mountains have a very great international importance for earth science. The number and collection of different carbon formations is unique, worldwide. The extraordinary geology permits us to take a view in the sea life of the Trias, which developed after the greatest animal dying ever been. The high, monumental and colourful landscapes of the Dolomites have fascinated travellers ever since and they were source of numerous researches and literature inspiration.
